A. Sauvage Fall Winter 2013 was inspired by Jean-Michel Basquiat, 1970s pop art and graffiti. Sauvage’s signature is drawn all over this collection but in a the most refreshing way possible, a collection by him is never complete without crisp/sharp tailoring befitting the young, modern and intuitive man who likes to take a look into the mirror a few more times before stepping out. The collection continues with classic wearable pieces, simple, sharp evening and formal wear shot by Sauvage himself. Raw talent at its best!

LOOKBOOK: MABM DESIGNS SUMMER 2013 PRINT FABRIC COLLECTIONS

 MABM-DESIGNS-GHANA-FASHION-AFRICAN-PRINTS-12

“My Inspiration for this collection came from my love for vintage finds, visiting art museums and reading magazines! I call this collection, Unexpected because it revels in the unexpected. Initially i wanted this collection to be inspired by the change in the season and the bright and beautiful weather approaching. However, I began to pick on the things i found around me that nobody will particularly pay attention to. Old paintings in the museum, old designed prints on plates and glasses from the vintage store as well as old sequinned dresses worn by artists in the past. I was amazed by their uniqueness and hence my choice of prints and colours” [MABM DESIGNS]

EKI ORLEANS FLUTTER OF BUTTERFLIES FOR SPRING/SUMMER 2013

eki-orleans-SS13-1 eki-orleans-SS13-2
This latest collection is thoughtfully named ‘Butterflies’ as I returned to nature for inspiration. During the creation stage for this collection, I found inspiration in the beauty of butterflies. It was on my last trip to Mauritius, where I encountered a flutter of beautiful butterflies and was instantly mesmerized. ‘It is the soft innocence and gracefulness of these species that I tried to capture in my SS13 collection. We used a lot of white fabrics to showcase the purity, against the vivid orange and fuchsia colours, which for me, beautifully portrays the energy that is brought to us through the wisdom of these delicate creatures. We often forget what changes they have gone through to blossom to that beauty and I wanted to create pieces that were pure and angelic.’ The feeling of love can be associated with a butterfly. Hold it too close, and you risk crushing its delicate structure. Loosen your grip and it could fly away. We have tried to capture this delicate feature by creating pieces, which drape off the body, evoking a sensuality found in every woman.
