Registration for the Middle East and North Africa Interior Design Awards is now open, dmg events announced yesterday. The organizers of INDEX and workspace at INDEX, the region’s largest and longest running residential and commercial design and interiors exhibitions, revealed requirements and deadlines of the competition, now in its second year. Winners will be announced at the Awards. Awards Ceremony to take place during INDEX International Design Exhibition and workspace at INDEX exhibitions on 19th May, 2014.Open to interior designers, interior architects and architects from across the globe, the MENA Interior Design Awards rewards projects located in the Middle East and North Africa which have been completed between 1st January 2012 and 31st December 2013.
“Following the success of the inaugural edition of the competition, we decided to introduce the MENA Interior Design Awards as a regular feature at INDEX and workspace at INDEX,” said Frederique Maurell, Group Event Director. “There are so many excellent projects in this region and, with over 26,000 people visiting both shows, INDEX and Workspace at INDEX provide the ideal platform to draw the attention of the industry to them.”
From luxury hotels and restaurants to apartments, offices and clinics, the competition recognises the most outstanding projects within fifteen different categories including: Corporate Space Large (1,000 square meters and above); Corporate Space Small (under 1,000 square meters); Cultural/Institutional/Educational (Elementary/secondary educational facilities, colleges/universities, art museums, religious facilities, libraries); Healthcare (Clinics, hospitals, medical facilities); Hospitality (bed & breakfasts, guest houses, hotels, resorts); Hotels and Resorts: Luxury (5 stars properties only); Landscape Residential; Landscape Non-residential (municipal parks, mixed use outdoor spaces, golf courses, racing tracks); Municipal/Public Spaces (Government spaces, sports arenas, entertainment/performing arts centres); Recreational (Club houses, Spas, Fitness/Wellness Centres, Yachts); Residential Space Large (Villas, Mansions, Palaces); Residential Space Small (Apartments, townhouses); Restaurants (Restaurants, bars, lounges); and Retail (Stores, boutiques, showrooms).
Participant projects for each of the fifteen categories will be evaluated by a panel of international and regional industry experts. Judge Charles Leon, Director of Charles Leon Associates, said: “I want an interior design to raise the bar and inspire. I want it to fire up my emotions; I want it to tell me a story! When I experience a design and say to myself “I wish I’d thought of that”, then I know it’s good”.
Four criteria will be taken into consideration: delivery of the key requirements of the client brief (appropriateness); the use of new trends and techniques (innovation); the impact of the project on its surroundings (context); and the presentation from the initial concept through to its completion. The projects that best comply with these criteria; will be announced as the winning entries.
The MENA Interior Design Awards has already garnered industry support from key companies including Kansai Paint MENA -Awards’ Headline sponsor – and in-light LLC sponsor of the Restaurant Category.
