Samuel Ojebode, a former Nigerian International, died on Wednesday at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, after an unsuccessful battle with a protracted ailment.
The 68 year-old Ojebode's death had thrown Shooting Stars Football Club, where he emerged a prominent defender, into mourning.
He was the captain of the team that defeated the Zamalek of Egypt to win the African Winners Cup in 1976. The late soccer star also captained the Shooting Stars Club between 1974 and 1980.
