And the drama Continues.... The He said they said banter... The Nigerian police is accusing Oshiomole of lying about the assassination attack he claimed on Thursday. Read the full details as reported after the cut.

The police has debunked allegations by Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was behind the attack on his convoy during a campaign rally last Thursday.

Louis Odion, the state's Commissioner for Information, in a statement on Thursday, had claimed that the governor was attacked at Usen in Ovia South-West Local Government Area of the state by suspected assassins who shot at the vehicles in the convoy, and had pointed accusing fingers at the PDP.

Reacting, the PDP, in a statement, dismissed the allegation, claiming the convoy was ambushed by protesting students, and accused the governor's security aides of having killed some of them.
However, the Edo State Police Command has accused both parties of being economical with the truth. In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Anthony Airhuoyo, the command said: "On Thursday, the governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, went on a campaign tour to Usen Town in Ovia South West Area of Edo State. The governor, while on his way to the campaign venue, met the students of the Institute of Technology and Management, Usen, and promised to address them on his way back.

After the campaign, at about 6.15pm, the governor decided to address them on a later date as it was already getting late. But the students barricaded the highway at the outskirts of the town and compelled the comrade governor to visit their institution."

According to the police, nobody was killed in the ensuing clash between the governor's security aides and the students.

A student of the institute, who did not want his name published, however confirmed that two of the protesters were injured in the fracas.
