Lagos Doctors: All recalled doctors must resume work today.

ALL recalled doctors under the employment of the Lagos State government, under the aegis of the Medical Guilds, are expected to resume duties in their respective hospitals today.

The chairman of the Lagos Medical Guilds, Dr Olumuyiwa Odusote, who announced this to journalists on Tuesday, after a congress held at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), said the action followed the directive of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) at its emergency delegate meeting.

He disclosed that all the 788 sacked doctors had been given recall letters, saying other issues would be sorted out after resumption.

However, he said the national body of NMA would, within the next two weeks, meet with the state government towards resolving the Consolidated Medical Salary Scale (CONMESS) and other issues which precipitated the strike.

“We have seen the ray of hope and we believe the state government will do the needful. We don’t enjoy strikes and we know that the government also do not like it. We hope there will be no more strike in Lagos,” he added.

Odusote, however, maintained that the doctors would go to court again if the state government failed to honour the agreement after negotiating with the NMA, but he ruled out the possibility of strike to achieve this objective.
